Link This very recent piece of news raised some mild alert of sorts in me... My professional career is one that revolves around interacting with the architects of new capabilities for the Army, on the ground level.  By my observations, which can be viewed with common opinion with any person with a keen eye to such matters, is that the Singapore Armed Forces has become an increasingly offensive armed force, to the level of potentially being able to prosecute a war beyond the territorial sovereignty of its host nation, short of total support from its political regime and its citizenry. My feeling is, if this new development bears fruit, and if the Government of Singapore accepts the invitation by obligation, going by its continuing and relentless effort in the 'war against terrorism', we may soon see our soldiers donning the colours or arm-bands of NATO overseas, notably in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Link Referencing to this earlier video upload of the guided MLRS on Future Weapons, just heard the official word about US of A's intent to sell the much vaunted artillery rocket system to Singapore. The announcement was aired over radio today.  The details being that it is the wheeled version of the MLRS called HIMARS, or High Mobility Artillery Rocket System.  Been anticipating this new capability acquisition for a while now, and it is finally coming to fruition. Indeed, the artillery rocket is a fearsome weapon on the battlefield.  This is yet another of a string of continuing gestures that indicate that SAF is increasingly offensive in its tactics and doctrine.

This thread comes in following up after the National Day Rally on Sunday, and really is a response to the specific words used by NMP Eunice Olsen, with reference to PM Lee's presentation of the proposed Punggol 21+ public housing development as published in yesterday's edition (21 August 2007) of the TODAY paper, on page 6.  These were her words: "The Punggol 21+ plan really awed the audience.  You can see community living as part of the neighbourhood.  People have a sense of pride in their community.  This plays an important role in the estate.  I hope this encourages young people to procreate."
