The Interpreter

Another film that I caught on HBO...

This movie has been dubbed a 'psychological, political suspense-thriller' in some of the online reviews I've read, with the record that it is the first ever film depicting the interior workings of the United Nations organisation at its headquarters in New York.

While those facts might entice those who have yet to have watched this, I must say that the winning formula comes from the excellent acting by Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman, especially Penn's rendering of his character in this movie which reminded me of his commendable effort put into the 2003 film '21 Grams'.

Heh, one of the darnest romantic exchanges in the script that I have heard also comes from this movie. Very simply, without the background, it goes like this:

Silvia (Kidman): What do you do when you can't sleep ?
Tobin (Penn): I stay awake

Honest, that's in the script. And here's the source - http://www.script-o-rama.com/movie_scripts/i/interpreter-script-transcript-nicole-kidman.html

Anyhow, while not filled with action scenes, this film certainly deserves the attention of a thinking viewer who is also able to empathise with the nature of the lead characters and appreciate the intricate developments in their characterisations as the plot thickens together with the myriad of subplots. Thus, this show warrants four stars from me.
