The Interpreter

Rating: ★★★★ Category: Movies Genre: Other Another film that I caught on HBO... This movie has been dubbed a 'psychological, political suspense-thriller' in some of the online reviews I've read, with the record that it is the first ever film depicting the interior workings of the United Nations organisation at its headquarters in New York. While those facts might entice those who have yet to have watched this, I must say that the winning formula comes from the excellent acting by Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman, especially Penn's rendering of his character in this movie which reminded me of his commendable effort put into the 2003 film '21 Grams'. Heh, one of the darnest romantic exchanges in the script that I have heard also comes from this movie. Very simply, without the background, it goes like this: Silvia (Kidman): What do you do when you can't sleep ? Tobin (Penn): I stay awake Honest, that's in the script. And here's the source - http://www.scri...

The Importance of the Ministry of the Watchman Today, Pt 3

This is the follow-on to the previous article about "The Role of a Watchman".  Link here: http://www.wnponline.org/wnp/wnp0705/watchmanpt2.htm The Role of a Watchman, Part Two A watchman stood guard on the walls of ancient towns to see to the welfare of its citizens and to warn of coming trouble. Who is to do that job today in a dangerous world moving closer to the crisis of the close of the age? by Darris McNeely Through Isaiah the prophet, God promises the watchful eye of servants who will hold day and night vigils for the peace of Jerusalem and its inhabitants. "I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the LORD, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth" (Isaiah 62:6-7). God charges this group to watch for the safety of the city and its citizens. These special servants understand the dangers of the present world. They...

The Importance of the Ministry of the Watchman Today, Pt 2

This post follows on from the article "Restoration: The Watchman As Servant" by World News & Prophecy.  The link is here: http://www.wnponline.org/wnp/wnp0703/ The Role of a Watchman—What It Means for You The Bible uses the role of a watchman to describe the work of a prophet among God’s people. Is there more to this symbolism than many have understood? The role of a watchman is vital to a full understanding of the work of God in the end time. by Darris McNeely To the prophet Ezekiel God said, "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me" (Ezekiel 3:17). Here is one of the most intriguing descriptive figures used by God in all of prophecy. It is repeated in chapter 33 for emphasis, and sets the stage for the prophet's ministry to the divided houses of Judah and Israel. Just what was the role of a watchman to an ancient city? How does God use the role of a watchman to warn ...

The Importance of the Ministry of the Watchman Today, Pt 1

I was introduced to an article on this topic by my brother, on World News & Prophecy website ( http://www.wnponline.org/about.htm ), and took a step further in examining the related articles there. The example of the watchman in society today is something dear to my heart, for which I am learning to live by, and so be an instrument of communicating warning and alarm as to the state of society and its future in the light of authoritative Scripture.  This is the first in a three part series of posts referenced to the related articles from WNP.  The link to the first article is shown here: http://www.wnponline.org/wnp/wnp0702/restoration0702.htm Restoration: The Watchman as Servant by Darris McNeely While in Southern California for a World News and Prophecy seminar last month, I had a chance to visit San Diego and take in a view of the city from atop Point Loma. There we visited the old lighthouse that for many years, from 1855 to 1891, was the beacon light for ships coming ...

King Kong (2005)

Rating: ★ Category: Movies Genre: Science Fiction & Fantasy Caught this on HBO, thought it could make my May Day worthwhile. My afterthought: Absolutely appalling film. It may be my bias against Peter Jackson. His Lord of the Rings series is none the better, if I might add, and I wonder how there can be so many fans of his out there when one can make a purely objective assessment of his screenplay and come out with a worse than amateur grading for it. Anyway, back to Kong. Biggest pain was in the plausibility of the physics involved in the action sequences, as well as the 'force-down-your-throat' approach in accepting that there can be such far-fetched fantasy in the now-known world, even though the setting of the movie was in the 30s. The movie culture today is overfed on visual spectacles to the point that Jackson just wishes to pander to those yearnings in whetting his audience' appetites. More about the ridiculous physics effects, as well as an utter disregard f...
