Christian Hedonism: An Oxymoron (And the Problem with John Piper)

A thorough examination of the theology of John Piper, chiefly his teachings about Christian Hedonism, and his other books including "Desiring God", which seem to have captivated the minds of many believers in the Church today, especially the impressionable amongst the youth as well as those weak in the faith, who hanker after new doctrine without pause for reason or discernment.

This paper dwelves deep into the realm of practical apologetics, determining the causes and motivations of Christian writers and the inclinations of their readers.

A worthy and relevant anecdote to accompany this article comes from James 3:1-2:

"My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.  For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body."

This is a reminder to be like the Bereans who searched the Scripture conscientiously even as they received the teaching, placing a definitive trust upon the teachings according to the Word as instructed and inspired of the Holy Spirit Himself.
