Rating: ★★★★★ Category: Computers & Electronics Product Type: Other Manufacturer:   Sony This seems like a breakthrough product by Sony in that there does not appear to be any competitor in the market. Designed for professional outdoor video recording catering to multiple video connection interface types, what really stands out is the reliability and durability under the environmental stresses encountered with rapid setup and displacement as well as rough transit, even though it is based on tape drive technology (employing MiniDV cassettes). A real boon to those looking for rugged video and electro-optic devices to use in the field.

Christian Hedonism: An Oxymoron (And the Problem with John Piper)

A thorough examination of the theology of John Piper, chiefly his teachings about Christian Hedonism, and his other books including "Desiring God", which seem to have captivated the minds of many believers in the Church today, especially the impressionable amongst the youth as well as those weak in the faith, who hanker after new doctrine without pause for reason or discernment. http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/piperpaper.htm This paper dwelves deep into the realm of practical apologetics, determining the causes and motivations of Christian writers and the inclinations of their readers. A worthy and relevant anecdote to accompany this article comes from James 3:1-2: "My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.  For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body." This is a reminder to be like the Bereans who searched the Scripture ...

Should Capital Punishment Be Abolished ?

In the wake of sudden occurrences of murders across the world in the last week, most notably the Virginia Tech incident, it will be good to share relevant insights with fellow readers who may be of the view to focus too much attention upon any healing process that is perceived to be needed for society at large from the aftermath of these events. This is so as not to be distracted and disillusioned by the moral bankruptcy of society in general, in adhering to a mentality of "moving on from one spectacle to another", which actually becomes ingrained as a conscience-searing attitude towards each individual's obligatory response to such events. I came across this significant presentation of a biblical view of the 'death penalty' ( http://www.theologyonline.com/DEATH.HTML ).  I see the relevance in sharing about this on the premise of what I have observed to be a considerable following by many in the Church towards the supposed teachings about 'love', or 'l...

Terror Threat Alert : Thermobaric Weapons in the Hands of Non-State Terrorists

Image
Recent advents in military technology that has shaped the world-wide war against terror - the development of handheld rocket launchers capable of firing single warheads to demolish (obliterate) building structures. The following is taken from a 1 1/2 year old thread from http://www.defensetech.org  (actual link http://www.defensetech.org/archives/2005_11.html ) : Thermobaric Foes: Explosive Threat Thermobaric warheads put the power to demolish buildings into the hands of the average U.S. marine. But Americans aren’t the only ones with the weapons. The Chinese, the Russians -- even guerilla groups -- now have thermobarics' shockingly destructive power in their grasps. Thermobarics aren't just a more powerful version of normal high explosive. The term encompasses a range of different types of warhead from fuel-air explosives, which release a cloud of flammable material and detonate it, to metallized explosives whose expanding fireball takes in oxygen from the air. What they have...

Massacre at Virginia Tech and the Problem with Society Today

This event has certainly roused the hearts and minds of many who have heard or even seen the aftermath of the tragedy. Will be penning more thoughts about this in due time, with much reference to the decadent aloofness and callousness of today's society towards those deemed as outcasts.

TV Series: The Unit - Episode 9: Eating the Young

Image
Rating: ★★★★ Category: Other This is a TV series currently airing on Channel 5 on Saturday afternoons. It features a "blacker than black" covert US Special Forces team operating under the guises of an army logistics regiment, whose missions span the globe where political sensitivities are the dominant factors in the government's choice in employing their specialties and services. The story revolves around the Unit's ground commander and his teammates, as well as their immediate families, namely, their spouses, who also serve as their homebound security agents, protecting their identities. Throughout each episode, the plots interweave between the men in the field and their wives at home, with special attention paid to portray the strong camaraderie amongst warriors and homemakers. Been only following the last two episodes, but I must say that the one that was aired yesterday (the one with the Unit hunting down drug lords dealing with illegal arms - stolen US Stinger...
