This thought only rescinded when I was offered a loan of the DVD by my colleague, and must say that I have been quite affected by the story based on that historical episode told through the protagonist 'Avner' the leader of the assassination squad despatched against the perpetrators of the kidnappings and killings of the Israeli Olympic athletes in 1972.
I shall leave whatever can be gleaned about the movie itself to what can be obtained in the known movie review resources. But I can say after watching the film, in muted response against any critic of the actions carried out in history over this matter, is that no one is to be ignorant of what God, the God of the nation of Israel, has said regarding His chosen and covenant people and nation.
That He will bless those who bless Abraham (and those of the seed of Abraham), and that He will curse those who curse Abraham (and those of the seed of Abraham) - I do not wish to elaborate on this but believers should know what this is about.
Nevertheless, this is a message for the readers who are not believers and doers of the message of the Cross of Jesus Christ - that those who curse (and have cursed) the nation of Israel - I am referring to all the anti-Israel/pro-Palestinean individuals, terrorist and non-terrorist alike, are guilty of such a transgression in thought, word and deed against the people of Israel. And God Himself has pronounced the judgment upon all such peoples who continue to oppose His chosen people and nation.
In that light, it is well followed in understanding the tragic outcome of the perpetrators of the Munich massacre. That it was through the providential act of God in moving the government of Israel in executing the policy of retribution and recompense for the transgression by the terrorists.
The issue here is not whether any of the agents or instruments of God's wrath were in any sense closely intimate with God Himself, but that God, in all profoundness of His Providence, brings about the subsequent turn of events in time. And that requires a people of God to discover and recognise that in marvel and cede honour to God, who delivers all, even the transgressors themselves - remembering in the film when the assasins' target gets confronted and is asked the 'last question' by the assasins: "Do you know why we are here ?" before they kill them. Surely by such confrontations in violence we all know that it is not mindless at all in any sense but righteous in all manner of justice - apart, of course, from the soft stance imposed by pacifist inclinations towards human rights etc which in fact perpetuate the true nature of all gross injustices.
While not being objective in this review, I trust in standing by the thoughts laid out. And that these thoughts will be impressed upon those who read it, whether or not they have watched the movie
