Donor fatigue and the passion for justice and morality

Recent news events that have in a way rehashed the issues behind their first occurrences in the local scene - indictments of well-known charities and happenings in the entertainment industry that directly or indirectly influence the prospective entrance of the future Integrated Resort (IR) here - the announcement of the folding up of the Crazy Horse cabaret.

In the flurry of these goings-on, which may naturally be perceived as continuing sagas in their own right, I recall, with amazement, the height of the moral outrage and social upheaval that such events evoked within the local population at large, only to observe now an apparent sense of lethargy, and a spirit of apathy overtaking the same opponents of injustice and immorality before.

It seems to me, the essence behind the term 'donor fatigue', coined to describe the attitude of weariness (lethargy) towards the rendering of compassion (to total strangers), has permeated society to the point of apathetic insincerity of the original noble intent of making a stand for justice and morality.

Though I do admit that this is mostly an unquantifiable statement, that will probably be unsubstantiated for any pragmatic reason, I feel obligated to make such a profound judgment, in humility, not claiming any sense of superiority over anybody.  I am of the view that the only cause for offence will be in the truth of the matter revealed, and those offended are rightly offended to be drawn to a decision point.  This reminds me well of the "Blue Pill/Red Pill" decision put across to Keannu Reeves' character in the movie "The Matrix" - whether to accept the hard, ugly truth, or to reject it and continue living a life of deceit in "Lala-land"
