Trees Of The Field

Image
Heard this song played in a Messianic praise style, and realised that indeed it was written by Messianic songwriters. This video presentation is a segment featured on one of Bill Gaither's recordings. Inspired from Isaiah 55:12, concerning the joy of all creation in celebrating the returning of the King !

Forever Young

Image
Lovely and amazing, this song, after all the marching, swearing songs that I have put up. Also a clarion persuasion towards a life of activism - not necessarily that of overt adventurism in opposing any and everything for public notoriety's sake, but more usefully, for the wonder of influence to work through the conviction of hearts and minds through thoughtful word and action.

The Lost Performance of We Shall Overcome

Again, another contrast to all the boisterous marching music that I have put up recently.

Blowing In The Wind

Image
Another stark contrast to all the marching songs that I have put up recently. Not merely an 'anti-war' song per se, but more subtly, it applies to an anti-establishment/anti-system approach to current state of lifestyle choices amongst the masses, though not particularly advocating the promotion of violence in doing so. It challenges the individual will to change one's own lifestyle and surrender its ownership to a greater authority - one that transcends the realm of this world and the systems that revolve around it

O du schöner Westerwald

Image
Another reknown marching song of the Wehrmacht along the tunes and lyrics of traditional folk song of the same title, also titled the "Westerwaldlied". Note to note: again there are no explicit tell signs of any allusion to politics, not least the ruling Nazi government of the time, as observable in the lyrics. This is a folk song that predates the horrors of wartime Germany.

Die Wacht am Rhein (Wehrmacht in color)

Image
Yet another rousing marching song of the Wehrmacht, played to a well rendered compilation of precious WW2 video footage of the German army, in colour. Interestingly, "Die Wacht am Rhein", or "The Watch on the Rhine" was written in the times of pre-World War 1 Germany, back in the twilight years of the Prussian monarchy. It only returned to prominence during the times of desperation of the German peoples struggling to be relieved from the state of imminent threat to national unity and security. It would have become the national anthem of modern Germany.

Fallschirmjager lied (German paratrooper song)

Image
Another rousing song of the Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe, really. Yes, the paratroop regiment of Nazi Germany came under the purview of the air force, instead of the army, like in armies of other nations. I remember a kit of military miniatures from Tamiya for the German Sturmgeshultz III came with a fallschirmjager element, most likely that these serve closely alongside panzergrenadier units.

Erika - Waffen SS the marching song

Image
In following after the discovery of the training film for panzergrenadiers, I remembered that the Waffen SS panzer divisions were reknown for the ferocity of their panzergrenadier teams in battle. Even their marching song here, deserves credit in inspiring their courage and fighting ability. A note: on inspection of the content of the lyrics of the song, I realised there is nothing fundamentally telling of the brutality associated with much of the units' actual exploits and notorious atrocities throughout the war.

Panzer Grenadier Training Film 1944 Part 4/4

Image
A rare gem in the realm of wartime era video footage - this one a training film for German panzergrenadiers, or mechanised infantry (Part 4 of 4). It is notable that many of the tactics taught have endured to this day and practiced and developed further by modern armies around the world. Another anecdote is the due diligence applied to the disciplined manner and delivery of verbal exchange between the ranks of the Germans, worthy of emulating by all armies.

PzKfw V PANTHER TRAINING FILM 1943

Image
Very rare and valuable insight into how tank crews were trained in the time of war. In this case, of the way the Germans prepared their young tank crews to operate the famous Panther tank against their likely enemy in the form of Soviet troops. Note: this is a wartime training video involving live actors (using mostly live ammunition) playing out their roles on both sides of the conflict.

Waitress

Image
Rating: ★★★★★ Category: Movies Genre: Independent The filming style of this movie took me by surprise when I chanced upon it on Star Movies and was delighted by the unabashededly indie-styled acting by the cast, and its unique plotline. Best here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waitress_(film ) Particularly memorable will be those segments of the film in which the way the themes of the sub-plots were introduced - by way of the types of ingredients described in the preparation of speciality pies (since the title of the film refers to the lead character, a waitress who has a particular talent in pie-making), appropriately named, as well, to echo the theme content themselves. Was also pleasantly surprised to realise that old-timer Andy Griffith (of 'Matlock' fame, and 'The Andy Griffith Show') is still alive, by his prominent presence as a supporting cast member.

Babel

Image
Rating: ★★★★ Category: Movies Genre: Independent This is the second film I've watched that was directed by Argentinian director Alejandro González Iñárritu (of '21 Grams' fame). Suffice to gather insight into the plot from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babel_(film ) Again, Iñárritu holds his fort as the expert who intermeshes a hodge-podge of disjointed scenes, presenting in a somewhat reverse chronological order, yet developing an outstanding finale of sorts to the patient, determined, discerning viewer. The premise of this film almost reiterates the same from that of '21 Grams', with a focus towards the exercise of sound judgement in determining one's conduct and behaviour with oneself and with regard to others. Superb acting by all in the cast.
